Jarley(like the motorcycle) and Gonzalo our driver picked us up at 6:30 Tuesday morning for a day of adventure. We drove a couple of hours north of Arequipa to the vicuña reserve. You can see a couple on they distance in this picture. The Volcano in The background is misti. Arequipa is on the other side.
This is jarley posing with a lot of alpaca and llamas in the background. We were amazed by all the animals this high in the mountains. The llamas and alpacas are all domesticated the vicuna are wild.
We stopped at a wetlands in the pampas Blanca. We watched a couple of ducks nest. Mom sat on eggs while dad brought her more nesting material. Jarley called them Hoya or ahoya . Jenn can you tell us what they are. They're black with huge red feet.
Here we are shivering at the highest pint on our trip. We were surrounded by volcanos we couldn't see the tops because if clouds. Still it's was amazing.
We stopped in Chivay on the way and walked an Incan trail for a bit. We passed these fields of quinoa and fava bean. Also many friendly cows and bulls. We were trying to figure out how to cross a stream when a Quechua family came from the other side. Mom raised her skirts and with baby on her back forded the stream. Dad jumped across. I followed moms example took my shoes off and walked across. It was great.
This is a view down the trail.
It was so beautiful!

The only Quechua I remember is K'aya K'ama. The K' is an explosive and it is that hard clicking sound you hear when they speak.
